Perchta
Perchta is from a time before written stories, but we often meet her in German-speaking countries, where she roams the Christmas nights, sometimes with Krampus.
She resembles Lucia. Her name means 'the luminous', and if you have been diligent and been weaving and spinning throughout the winter, she will appear to you as a beautiful woman with flowers in her hair, a messenger of spring and light. But if you've been lazy and naughty, she'll show you her very dark side - the one where she pulls out your guts and replaces them with straw and pebbles, so you quickly sink to the bottom of the city's well!
Perchta is one of 10 Christmas creatures that you can meet three Saturdays until Christmas at Moesgaard Museum. Read more about the others below.
