Iron Age - The Sacrifices In The Bog

In the Iron Age, sacred temples are not built in Denmark, like in the Roman Empire or Ancient Greece. Instead, people go out into nature and place offerings in lakes and bogs. The bog is a sacred place and a gateway to the world of the gods.

On this tour, we meet the bog as a landscape and as the place where, for thousands of years, people make sacrifices to the gods – including the greatest sacrifice of all: a human being. Grauballe Man is the world’s best-preserved bog body. We come very close to him and learn about the methods that have been used by the researchers to reveal details of his life, age, health, last meal and death.

Viking Age - The Adventures Of The Vikings

With the personal stories of the Vikings in our ears, we follow them through the smoky, narrow alleyways of Aros – the Vikings’ Aarhus.

We choose ourselves which person from the Viking Age we would like to follow on an adventure: Queen Tove, Harald Bluetooth’s young bride, 12-year-old Arne or how about the first bishop of Aros, Reginbrand? We sail our own ship over open seas and through belts to Norway’s mountains or travel via rivers to exotic Constantinople.

City tour and the Viking Museum in Aarhus

Together we visit the Viking Museum on Bispetorv in Aarhus C, and step into the original Viking Age Aros, three meters below today's street level. Hear the stories of Gorm the Old's fortifications, Harald Bluetooth's unfortunate encounter with an arrow and the headless skeleton. Find out more about the city's ramparts and the inhabitants of the Viking Age at the place where the stories took place.

The trip is a city walk in central Aarhus with a focus on the introduction of Christianity. During the city walk through old Aros, the fascinating story of the city's rise and development in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages is told.

The Celtic World - Europe's Lost Legacy

We explore a culture that is not afraid of drama when we visit the Celtic World. A culture characterized by warrior communities, fortified cities, and wild rituals. A culture that extends over a huge area with origins in the very first big cities north of the Alps. Is it Europe's primeval power, which arose 2,500 years ago and continues to influence our world today?
