Moesgaard is a private institution with a long and strong tradition of presentation and research. The museum works closely with Aarhus University and is the workplace for more than 300 museum and university staff.
Moesgaard has archaeological responsibility for the local area around Aarhus and has the status of a special museum, which means that the archaeologists at the museum also undertake archaeological research both in Denmark and abroad.
Collaboration with AU
The museum collaborates closely with Aarhus University in research and teaching in the subjects: prehistoric archaeology, medieval archaeology, anthropology, oriental studies and more. Teaching mostly takes place at the manor house Moesgård, where the museum also previously staged public exhibitions.
The museum has its own Department of Conservation and Natural Sciences, which also undertakes special tasks for other museums.
In the museum’s exhibition building, which opened in 2014, the permanent exhibitions offer new perspectives on the past and its people, as well as an anthropological view of all the peoples of the world. In addition, the museum has changing special exhibitions, which present the world’s most spectacular cultural heritage.
Moesgaard and AU have a joint website about the collaboration, which you can see here.
