The Middle Ages are a bleak time characterised by plague, royal murder and war, but also a colourful period of vision, festivity and temptation. Go on a journey through a series of events and stories focusing on the people of the Middle Ages.
AD 1050 - AD 1536
How do you live when death is constantly on your mind? In the exhibition you can follow the people of the Middle Ages through baptism, the creation of the earth and the Christian dogma with the motto: "Remember, you will die".
The Church has removed all traces of the worship of many Viking gods, and on the Day of Judgement you will either see the light of paradise or be condemned to the flames of hell.

Step into a society which is divided between immense power and the very bottom. King, Church and nobles are at the top – but not without the use of the sword. Meanwhile, 95% of the population live in the countryside, where with sweating faces they eat their daily bread, cultivate the land, harvest the corn and grind it into flour, as well as dig clay and fire bricks for the castles and churches from which the powerful men rule.

King Erik V is brutally murdered in 1286. His commander Marsk Stig and other powerful men are declared outlaws and capture the island of Hjelm, from where they plunder the Danish coasts and mint counterfeit coins. See and hear the dramatic story of the murder at Finderup Lade in an atmospheric video installation in the exhibition.
